![]() ![]() Makalei Hawaii Country Club - The "Cave of Makalei" is a legend about Makalei, a little boy who found a water source for his family and enabled them to prosper. The story tells of young Makalei coming across a deep hole, partially covered by large slabs of stone. The wind rushed out of the hole and he ran to tell his father. His father moved the stones and saw a deep cave extending into the mountain. In honor of his son's discovery he named the cave of water "He Ano Makalei", which means Consecrated to Makalei. |

Makalei Golf Course is a refreshing contrast to the resort courses along the Kohala Coast line. Situated on the slopes of Mauna Loa, the course begins at an elevation of 1,950 feet and climbs almost 1,000 feet to the 10th tee. The undulating fairways and greens will surely provide enough challenge for every level of golfer. |
| While playing your round, take some time to appreciate the many birds, diverse flora and spectacular views of the coastline throughout the course. Wild turkey, peacock, and canaries are abundant. Native birds like the Io, hawk; Pueo, owl; and I'iwi can also be found. |
